Lower Merion/Narberth to Conduct Joint StudyRegarding Police Services

On April 9th, Lower Merion Township Board President Bruce D. Reed and Narberth Borough Council President Mary Jo Pauxtis each announced interest in the Township of Lower Merion providing police services to the Borough of Narberth.

“Our purpose in raising this issue is to determine possible shared budgetary cost savings for both municipalities,” remarked Reed. “Certainly, extensive evaluation would precede any decisions on this proposal, with our shared priority being the safety and protection of both the citizens of Lower Merion and Narberth.” Reed’s announcement noted that the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #28, the police employee union serving both municipalities, has been apprised of the study.

“No decisions have been made at this time and it would be premature to anticipate that either municipality would agree to this idea,” added Ms. Pauxtis. “Our purpose is to explore this topic to determine if it is in the best interests of our citizens and the best use of taxpayer dollars.”

President Reed indicated that as the study unfolds in the months ahead, updates will be provided to residents of both the Borough and the Township.
